Meryl Hayes

from seed heads to sea shores
My first artistic experiments were in watercolour, and after over 25 years of trying to master this tricky medium, I still love the challenge it presents. I am fascinated by light and colour and there is always something new to learn.
Since retiring, I have re-ignited my love of sewing and enjoy experimenting with different techniques.
During lockdown I taught myself to knit and am now exploring the art of dyeing wool with plants from my garden.
I also do a variety of printmaking, from ecoprinting, to sun dyeing and I am always on the lookout for new techniques to incorporate into my work.
I have exhibited in the Harvey Gallery in Guildford, Denbies Vineyard in Dorking and with Oxshott Art & Crafts. I am a member of Ochre Print Studio in Guildford and have exhibited with them both in Guildford and Cranleigh.
I have also taken part in Surrey Artists Open Studios and am a founder member of Textiles on Tuesdays, a mixed media creative group.
I am also a member of the Glad Rags Gang, a group of local creatives who volunteer at West Horsley Place.
